PETALING JAYA (April 11, 2010): Alternative arrangements will be found to enable Thai pathology expert Dr Pornthip Rojanansunand  to testify in the Teoh Beng Hock inquest if she is unable to be present in court due to pressures against her, said Teoh family counsel Gobind Singh Deo.

Gobind, in a statement today, expressed confidence that the inquest would continue if Pornthip was unable to be physically present to testify.

"If that  fails, we will have to proceed with what we have and we are confident  we will still be able to succeed in establishing our case which is that Teoh's death was a clear case of homicide," he said in response to online reports that Pornthip would not be testifying on April 20 as planned.

Malaysia would seem to have nothing in common with Nashville but this city of country music has hit a high note on religious diversity in a case that would resonate in any multi-racial country.

ON a cold February day, a Nashville mosque was vandalised with a chilling message “Muslims Go Home” splayed out in red paint on its wall.

It was a hate crime that shattered the community which had so far faced little trouble in this Tennessee city known for its country music.

Hell did not break loose, though.

CYBERJAYA: All buildings taller than nine-storeys or sitting on “sensitive locations” should be made to include features to counter the effects of earthquakes and strong winds.

Malaysian Society for Engineering and Technology president Prof Datuk Abang Abdullah Abang Ali said it was working on a proposal calling for such laws after looking at the growing strength and frequency of earthquakes and strong winds in the region, which effects had also been felt here.

He said the potential for such threats had to be recognised following the increase in tremors that had been felt by Malaysians after earthquakes in Indonesia or the Philippines, or the number of trees uprooted by storms.
