BERA: A new hire-purchase Act in accordance with Islamic principles will be introduced, said Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said a study of the draft Act was being discussed with a panel comprising Islamic economists and Muslim consumer associations, and it was being finalised.
The draft would also look into examples of Islamic legislation used in other countries.
Ismail Sabri said the new Act, called the Islamic Hire-Purchase Act, seeks to settle issues and financing problems usually found in common hire-purchase legislation, such as the Hire Purchase Act 1964 and Pawnbrokers Act 1972.
SHAH ALAM 10 Feb.
PUTRAJAYA 10 Feb.
Peguam J. Kuldeep Kumar yang mewakili Azilah, 34, ketika ditemui pemberita memberitahu, anak guamnya belum memfailkan petisyen rayuan kerana pihaknya masih belum menerima alasan penghakiman Mahkamah Tinggi.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Personal Data Protection Act may be implemented this year after enforcement personnel and department staff have been trained, said Information, Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.
“This is to ensure that all parties understand the law before it is enforced. Awareness programmes are also on-going for consumers and those in the industry,” he said after opening the new Personal Data Protection Department and awareness seminar here yesterday.
Training, he added, would be given to members of the Attorney-General's Chambers and the police. The Act was gazetted in June 2010.
Dr Rais said the Act aimed to protect people's personal data, such as bank account details, credit card information, medical history, blood type and communication details, to ensure it was not abused.
PUTRAJAYA: Although Karpal Singh as a Member of Parliament and prominent lawyer has the right to make political comments and express his views on the Constitution and laws, the rights and freedom of speech enshrined in the Federal Constitution are not absolute, the Appeals Court has ruled.
Justice Datuk Ahmad Ma'arop, in his 105-page judgment, said the freedom of speech as guaranteed in the constitution meant a person had the right to speak, write or publish anything he or she liked as long as they did not break the laws.
As such, he said, what was uttered by Karpal Singh at a press conference in 2009 regarding Sultan Azlan Shah of Perak over the political crisis in the state then, had exceeded the boundaries permitted by laws and amounted to sedition.
