The Malaysian Bar has lost a true friend of the Bar and I find myself unable to find words to describe my sense of loss. I got to know Kuhan well in our campaign against the LPA amendments and causes in the interests of the Bar. He was always well-organised, straightforward and clear-thinking about his objectives.

What impressed me was his genuine concern for the future of the Bar and the welfare of members. He seemed almost tireless when he set an agenda and I often had text messages even around midnight bouncing ideas. I will miss my friend.

I pray that his wife Prema and their young daughters have the strength to go through the long days ahead.

Let me share this quote by Albert Einstein “Our death is not an end if we can live on in our children and the younger generation. For they are us, our bodies are only wilted leaves on the tree of life.” Kuhan, the passion you show in standing to your beliefs and principals will always not be forgotten.

I have known Kuhan throughout his days at the Malayan Bar. He was a big man who thought big; Law was not wide enough to confine him as he diverted into Intellectual Property and the food business. He was a tireless walker and always seemed to have time for a couple of rounds along Sydney Lake at the Lake Gardens. And he was most encouraging of people like me who would turn up for a stroll now and then.

He was very interested in the Bar and in legal issues. He enjoyed a scrap. He never seemed to miss a General Meeting whether of the Bar or the Lake Club. His participation in such meetings was vocal and enthusiastic. He was always ready to come forward with a proposed compromise with regard to thorny issues. In his later years at the Bar he seemed to have attracted a group of like-minded lawyers to form a loose-structured pressure force.

He was always pleasant and very anxious to ensure that his enthusiastic interventions at General Meetings did not cause any more hurt than he intended.

He was fun to be with. It is a pity he had to go so young. To his wife, children and people in his office I offer my heart-felt condolences.

I am greatly shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the sudden demise of my dear friend Kuhan.

I have known Kuhan for over 10 years having met him first at one of the APAA conferences and thereafter meeting him regularly over the years at several international conferences.

Our Firm has been involved with Kuhan and his Firm in several professional matters mainly in the areas of Intellectual Property, Corporate Law and Litigation. His knowledge, business acumen, professionalism and efficiency were commendable.

His frank and open manner appealed to everyone who met him and he was always ready to lend a helping hand and pass on advice relating to various matters both professional and personal. Genuineness was one of the many qualities of his remarkable personality.

Kuhan was larger than life in every sense. He walked tall and had a large heart. He possessed a fine sense of humour, he loved his colleagues, he loved his food and was always the live wire at any gathering.

Kuhan maintained his Sri Lankan connections and visited the country several times. I remember the many times he called over at our office.

His passing away at the prime of his life is a great loss to all of us.

My colleagues join me in extending our sincere condolences to Prema, Keerthana and Prishaanti.

I will miss him very much. May he rest in peace.
