PENANG:
Civil lawyer Datuk S. P. Annamalai’s killing might be related to the court cases that he handled, George Town OCPD Asst Comm Azam Abd Hamid said.

He said that among the cases police were investigating was one land matter in the Waterfalls area that Annamalai, 59, handled about a month ago.

"Compensation was paid to more than 10 squatters but there is a possibility that one unhappy person might have held a grudge against him," he told reporters when met at his office.

Annamalai died of excessive loss of blood after he was stabbed with a long knife when he was walking to his car in Green Hall here at 6.35pm on Tuesday.

His clerk S. Nalaaini, 20 had said that the assailant fled the scene on a motorcycle with an accomplice.

ACP Azam also said more than one person might be involved in the killing.

"We have the photofits of two men in their late 20s. The public, according to witnesses, could not get to the assailant as he was carrying a knife,” he said.

He urged those with information to contact ASP Kooi Chun Chai at 017-486 9088 or go the nearest police station.

Annamalai was cremated at the Batu Gantung crematorium on Friday.
