Ian Kingsley Meek, passed away peacefully in England, aged 84 on 7 December 2008.

Ian Meek was a longtime member of the Penang Bar. Admitted to the Bar in Malaya on 24 April 1951, he practised in the firm of Presgrave & Matthews (of which he was Senior Partner for 32 years) until his retirement in December 1992.

He had a great love for Penang and he is described in the notice (of his passing) posted in The Times of London as “of Penang”. His late wife, Elizabeth, was Penang born.

As a practitioner, he was thorough and meticulous. He was principally involved in his later years in non-contentious corporate and commercial work. His early practice however included his successful defence of the wife of an RAF pilot on a charge of murdering her children, a case which he considered to be particularly notable in his career.

He leaves behind two sons, Nigel and Charles and a daughter, Tessa.
