JOHOR BAHARU, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Johor Liaison Chairman and one of Johor's most famous opposition figures, Abdul Razak Ahmad, died at 1.20pm today after complaining of chest pain and backache earlier in the day.

Abdul Razak, 68, died at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital after he was brought there at about 4am. He lost consciousness at about 11 am.

The lawyer, who was well-versed in land matters and was a stalwart of the then Parti Rakyat Malaysia, leaves a wife, Kintan Mohd Amin, 60, and four children -- Zulkifli, 38, Juliah, 37, Faizal, 35, and Azlina, 34.

A relative, Fatimah Mohd Tahir, 61, said Abdul Razak's family wanted to send him to hospital after he complained of the chest pain and backache at 2 am but he insisted on staying home.

He was finally taken to the hospital at about 4 am, she said.

"He became unconscious at about 11 am. We wanted to transfer him to the Johor Specialist Hospital but he died at 1.20 pm," she added.

Abdul Razak was buried at the Mahmoodiah Muslim Cemetery here, she said.
