Friday, 24 June 2011 09:26am
Contributed by the Bar Council Human Rights Committee
The Bar Council Human Rights Committee (“BCHRC”) will send monitoring teams to observe the BERSIH 2.0 rally scheduled on 9 July 2011. The monitoring teams will look out for possible violations of human rights during the event.
BCHRC would like to invite Members of the Malaysian Bar and pupils in chambers to join the teams.
Members of the monitoring teams must adhere strictly to the rules and guidelines set by BCHRC in monitoring the rally.
BCHRC emphasises that the duty of the team is solely to monitor the rally and team members must NOT, at any point, participate in the rally.
Names of those in the monitoring team will be submitted to the organiser of the rally and the police, for the purpose of information, at least three days before the rally.
If you are interested to be part of the monitoring team, please contact Adilah Ariffin by telephone at 03-2050 2091, or email your contact details to adilah@malaysianbar.org.my, by Monday, 27 June 2011. A briefing will be conducted, for those who confirm their participation, on a date to be announced soon.
