Children’s Homes Receive Funds from Fundraising Dinner

The Children’s Homes Fundraising Dinner organised by the Bar Council Human Rights Committee (BCHRC), held in conjunction with the International Human Rights Day on 10 December 2009 managed to raise approximately RM189,000.00 through the sale of tickets, t-shirt, artwork and donations.
On Tuesday, 8 March, a cheque presentation ceremony was held at the Bar Council Auditorium. The ceremony was attended by Ragunath Kesavan, President of the Malaysian Bar and George Varughese, Secretary of the Malaysian Bar. Representing UMNO, the Gold Sponsor for the fundraising dinner was Dato’ Seri Abdul Azim bin Mohd. Zabidi, Head of UMNO Bukit Bintang.
In her welcome speech, Siti Kasim, Organising Committee Chairperson informed the attendees that having visited the homes and had the opportunity to assess their needs and requirements, the BCHRC has decided to disburse the funds collected in the following manner: RM56,400 to All Ethnic Group Refugee Children Education Centre, RM37,600 to Rumah Solehah and RM18,800 each to the remaining five homes, namely Desa Amal Jireh, The Pure Life Society, Gurpuri Foundation, An-Najjah, and Rumah Sayangan.
The children’s homes were also presented the books donated by Oxford Fajar Sdn Bhd and food hampers from Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad at the ceremony.
