Defending the BTN, Biro Tata Negara! My goodness! What has the institution done that makes it deserve the DPM's defence. If Muhyiddin Yassin is still not very clear of the actual situation, he can always find out the contents of the bureau's curricula before seeing the persons in charge and the speakers at the bureau, asking them what they have said during the classes. Of course, one-sided remarks can never always be reliable. As a result, the deputy prime minister can always meet the minister in charge of national unity Dr Koh Tsu Koon, and find out from him what "contributions" BTN has done towards national unity and how much it has been abhorred by the people, in particular among the intelligentsia and non-Malay communities. To be fair and comprehensive, Muhyiddin can personally interview those who (are forced to) participate in BTN's courses, and listen what they have to say.
Only after all the necessary information has been collected and all the voices heard, should Encik Muhyiddin pass down his judgement, whether the bureau has been actively promoting the "1Malaysia" concept as he said. Unless the "1Malaysia" concept advocated by the bureau is something completely opposite of what PM Najib has wanted. If he feels that the racist discourse, Malay chauvinism, hegemony thinking, blind loyalty, etc championed and instilled by the bureau, along with the open humiliation of non-Malay trainees could be said as constituent parts of "1Malaysia," then I think I have nothing else to say. Of course, I strongly believe Muhyiddin will not think this way. As such, YAB, please get a clearer picture what the BTN has done first before deciding to defend it. Otherwise, upon learning the whole truth, hopefully he would make a bold decision to disband it. + + + + + + + The Bukit Antarabangsa tragedy is almost a year now. The four victims killed in the landslide still do not have any idea why they have died to this day. Those living in the vicinity are equally eager to know why the landslide has occurred. Especially when the sky is overcast and the rain starts to fall, they couldn't be sure whether they should give up their homes or stay back and pray. They have not asked for anything else save the truth, to keep the dead in peace and the survivors prepared. Even this simple request has been denied under the Official Secrets Act, OSA. Selangor menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim earlier divulged part of the report on the landslide, but he was instantly blocked by the federal government, which claimed that the report had been classified. Khalid has therefore breached the OSA and could be brought to the court any time. OSA is indeed ubiquitous. Even landslides can come under it. The tragedy does not entail national security, government exam papers, nor threaten the federal administration or national interests. I don't see any reason for such matters to be locked securely inside the safety box of OSA. And this is how speculations may arise. For instance, whether the investigation report has found intense heat under Ulu Kelang area, and that drastic earth movements of the crust could take place, triggering a massive earthquake or perhaps a devilish tsunami? The real version of the 2012 Apocalypse is going to take place in Ulu Kelang? For fear of instigating widespread panic, the government has therefore decided to black out the report? Ridiculous--I'm talking about 2012. I'm talking about USA. (By TAY TIAN YAN/Translated by DOMINIC LOH/Sin Chew Daily) MySinchew 2009.11.27 Set as favourite Share Email This Comments (0)
