Port Klang Authority (PKA) Chairman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng has lodged a police report over the controversial Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) project. The black hole of PKFZ has started being illuminated by searchlights.
They have currently illuminated an overspending of RM500 million to RM1 billion.
For example, the task force found that Kuala Dimensi has asked for over RM50 million and RM80 million of expenses for two projects, which has not yet started and in fact, do not exist.
There was a fraud case in the past in which a public authority claimed thousands of ringgit for a car jack worth about a hundred ringgit. We thought that it was the worst corruption case. However, it is in fact nothing at all compared to PKFZ. At least after spending a few thousands, we could still get the car jack that worth a hundred ringgit. But for the so-called PKFZ facilities that cost us billions of ringgit, we can see nothing at all.
Other claims included the fine-sounding additional project that required over RM 250 million. But the project has in fact already included in the original construction contract. As for some items that were not allowed to demand payment, they still dared to render a bill. And for some items that required receipts, they claimed the money without offering a receipt. Also, some projects were seriously overspent.
Where have the money gone?
No wonder the PKFZ is so broad and empty. Perhaps, it is a mirage which has once painted a beautiful scene but in fact, it is just an illusion.
The task force has completed its task and Lee has as well lodge a police report. It is now depends on whether the police, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Attorney General are going to take any follow-up action.
Kuala Dimensi can no longer coax as it has a lot to explain.
However, the searchlight illuminated only part of it; there is something more interesting coming up.
In addition to Kuala Dimensi, there are still many people that cannot evade their responsibilities. Kuala Dimensi is an entrusted company, how was it entrusted? How did it obtain the contract? How did it go through the bid? How did it get paid?
In short, it takes two to tango. There must be some people behind who approved the projects and appropriations. Who are these people? What are their motives? Have they received any undeserved or unlawful benefits?
This is a long fishing line. With a hook after another, it would be a really long line. To really fishing, it is necessary to get catch big fishes and we should not miss even one of them. (By TAY TIAN YAN/ Translated by SOONG PHUI JEE/ Sin Chew Daily)
