Contributed by Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) The Legal Aid Centre has always endeavoured to provide legal assistance to those most in need. However, our resources are at present constrained, and we are in urgent need of more members of the Bar to volunteer their services. We currently have 95 criminal unassigned files that require attention and which we would be grateful for volunteers to handle. Pursuant to the above, the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) will be conducting a “Take-A-File” workshop on Criminal Litigation. This workshop will provide attendants with a sound understanding of the type of work involved in criminal litigation at the Legal Aid Centre. The workshop is particularly aimed at members of the Bar who have voiced their intention to volunteer their services at the Legal Aid Centre, but at the same time are apprehensive about taking criminal files due to lack of knowledge or experience. This workshop will be conducted by Mr Ravi Nekoo, Ravinder Singh and others. The Workshop will deal with:- 1. Fundamentals of criminal litigation – the must knows 2. Dealing with Prosecution Agencies and Prison Authorities 3. Bail Applications 4. Application documents under Section 51A of the Criminal Procedure Code 5. Preparing a defence 6. Conducting Examination in Chief and Cross Examination 7. Submissions The Details of the Workshop are as follows:
The workshop provides a great opportunity for those interested in gaining exposure in criminal litigation as we not only provide the knowledge but also the practical experience and the supervisory assistance from experienced criminal practitioners during trial. This Workshop will be very resourceful for those who are currently handling Criminal LAC Files as well as for ANYONE who is interested in criminal litigation. The only commitment we expect from you by providing this invaluable training and exposure is for you to SERIOUSLY assist our centre and take up Criminal LAC Files. Please register for this Workshop as soon as possible with Ms. Sheena or Mr. Manimaran of the KL LAC at 03-26913005 / 03-26932072 / Fax: 03-26930527 or email at lacklb@klbar.org.my / sheena.lacklb@klbar.org.my or mani.lacklb@klbar.org.my Thank you.
