![]() For its 2010/2011 term, the Family Law Committee is continuing with its objectives of: The Committee has met three times at the time of writing this report. The activities for the 2010/2011 term include:(a) Meeting with Attorney General’s Chambers and National Registration Department As a follow-up to the 12 July 2007 meeting with the National Registration Department (NRD) and the 22 June 2009 meeting with the Attorney General YBhg Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, the Committee posted a write-up on the Malaysian Bar website on 31 Mar 2010 to inform Members of the issues discussed at these meetings. (b) Enforcement of maintenance orders The Subcommittee on Enforcement of Maintenance Orders is currently preparing a position paper on the ways and means to simplify and strengthen the procedures of, and to consider other means for, enforcement of maintenance orders. The Subcommittee will organise a public forum later this year to collate views on the position paper before submitting the same to the relevant government authorities. (c) A Meeting with YA Tan Sri James Foong to discuss family court procedures The Committee met with YA Tan Sri James Foong, Managing Judge for the Civil Courts, on 5 Apr 2010. Deputy Registrars of Kuala Lumpur and Shah Alam Family Courts were also present at this meeting where several issues pertaining to family court practices were discussed. (d) Public campaign to amend section 95 of the Law Reform (Marriage & Divorce) Act 1976 The public campaign is aimed at gathering support from non-governmental organisations and political parties to urge the Government authorities to amend section 95 of the Act to extend the legal obligation of parents to maintain their children beyond the age of 18 years. Among the strategies adopted are to publicise the issue in the media and to organise roadshows in various states.
