The Bar Council Corporate and Commercial Law Committee (“CCLC”) organised a talk on “Accounting for Lawyers” on 18 Jan 2016. Held at the Raja Aziz Addruse Auditorium, Bar Council, the objective of the talk was to acquaint lawyers with the basic principles of accounting that would be relevant to their practice.
The talk was conducted by David Ong Chan Tong, Partner at Messrs Chooi & Company.
The topics that were covered included the following:
* Understanding audited accounts; and* Basic financial statement analysis.
A total of 29 participants attended the talk. There was also active participation from the audience at the question–and–answer session. The feedback was that while the participants found the talk informative and interesting, they had some difficulties with the more technical financial terminologies. Nonetheless, the speaker’s clear, concise and holistic presentations, accompanied by actual case studies, were much appreciated by the participants.
Jeremiah Gurusamy, Co–Chairperson of CCLC, who served as the moderator, presented the speaker with a token of appreciation at the end of the talk.
