Dear Malaysian Bar Council
Greetings from the Burma Lawyers' Council. For the first time in Burma's history, lawyers inside Burma have been fighting for fair trials and independent justice. As a consequence, several of them have been sent to prison simply for defending their clients' legal rights. Some lawyers are now intimidated and afraid to defy the government-controlled judges. Attached is a statement released by LawAsia describing the recent arrests and convictions. We urge you to spread this news to your members, the public, and other legal groups in your country. It is important that lawyers stand together in solidarity against tyranny and oppression. Your support from abroad will give lawyers inside Burma hope and encouragement knowing that the international legal community stands with them.
For further information, please contact U Nyunt Lwin, Officer of Public Relations, at blc.publicrelation@gmail.com
Thank you for your attention to this urgent and important matter.
