“A Silent Walk in the Night” was organised by Raise Voice @ Dignity and Services Bhd on 2 July 2011 at Central Park 1Utama. It was an evening dedicated towards creating greater awareness of children with learning disabilities and helping them better integrate into our society.

The aim of the 60-minute fun-filled, friendly event was to raise awareness and help integrate special children into our community. Participants were required to gather at the park, walk in silence with a light, to show their support for enhancing the lives of children with disabilities. Learning disorders, or learning disabilities, are disorders that cause problems in speaking, listening, reading, writing, or mathematical ability.

The Bar Council Constitutional Law Committee’s booth

The Bar Council Constitutional Law Committee was invited to have a booth which was “humanned” by Fazli, Bo Feng, Irene and Melissa Dass. The activities started at 4:00 pm with a host of activities which included a water drinking competition, games and lucky draws.

The highlight of the evening before the actual walk was the stage performances by the special children and entertainment by guest artiste Brian John Yim.  The talented children sang some golden oldies and one of them did a rendition of Bruno Mars’s hit “Nothing on You”. One of the children entertained the crowd by playing Richard Marx’s “Right Here Waiting” and a couple of other songs on the keyboard. The most memorable performance was a young gentleman’s rendition of Whitney Houston’s “One Moment in Time”. There was also a performance by some children from a Jazzercise studio.

Performances at “A Silent Walk in the Night”

As the sun set, the vendors of the booths started to pack up to make way for the walk itself.  The walk path of the park was lined and lighted with tea-light candles to help guide everyone during the 60-minute walk.  It was a beautiful and spectacular sight to have everyone walking in the serene surroundings.  The activities came to an end after the walk with most of the participants helping the organisers clean the park.  It was a beautiful experience.
