©The Star (Used by permission)THE state-level MyConstitution Campaign, a national campaign to promote awareness and understanding of the Federal Constitution, will be launched in Kuching on Saturday. Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Richard Malanjum will jointly officiate at the launch. The campaign, the first of its kind, aims to reach out to the 28 million Malaysians through the distribution of booklets called Rakyat Guides. The booklets are now available in English and Bahasa Malaysia. There are plans to translate the booklets into Mandarin, Tamil and Iban. The booklet simplifies the different parts of the Federal Constitution.
Advocates Association of Sarawak (AAS) president Frank K.H. Tang in a press statement issued yesterday said the booklets would be released in stages over the course of the campaign’s two-year period. In addition to the booklets, there will be forums, discussions and workshops for the general public, schools and universities to promote the concept of rights and constitutionalism in Malaysia. The campaign’s launch in Sarawak is a joint effort of AAS and the Bar Council’s Constitutional Law Committee. Tang said there would also be a talk and workshop on the campaign at 1pm on the launch day. Members of the public, secondary school students and undergraduates of universities and institutions of higher learning are welcome to participate in the campaign. Seats, however, are limited to 60 on a first-come-first-served basis. Those interested are advised to register early via telephone (082 448 077), fax (082-449 427) or email aas@sarawak-advocates.org.my For more information, visit www.perlembagaanku.com or www.facebook.com/myconstitution Set as favourite Share Email This Comments (0)
