Football Training & Trials - 2008/07/01 17:31
Dear Members & Pupils,
Its the off season for football but the new season is looming. The Malaysian Bar is on the look out for new players for several upcoming tournaments, namely, the Asian Cup in January 2009, Bench & Bar Games and our final destination, the 15th Lawyers World Cup in Italy 2010. Only a team that trains and plays regularly will be able to put up a good show at these tournaments. Unfortunately, due to lack of response, Malaysia was not represented at the recently concluded 14th Lawyers World Cup in Spain.
As you are well aware, the Bar Football team is self funded by the players themselves. Everyone chips in, purely voluntary. We need committed players to train and play regularly.
We start training & trials from 11th July 2008. Training will be conducted at
NPNG Sports Centre (near Sri Damansara) Lot 9610, Taman Desa Aman, 47000 Sungai Buloh, Selangor Darul Ehsan Website: www.npng.com.my (please check out the website for the location map)
Time : as we are all busy practitioners, training is conducted from 10-00pm till 12-00am on Fridays, beginning 11.7.2008. Please bring normal football boots and not futsal shoes.
Should you have any queries, please contact me at 0122001262.

Zaim,
As you are a freshly admitted lawyer (welcome to the bar), I appreciate your concerns about the costs. If selected, you will be expected to contribute your share of the costs. I do take into consideration on the amount to be contributed, depending on the number of years standing you have. The senior members will always take care of the younger ones.
You may not be able to contribute much financially, but each member of the team will be expected to contribute your efforts in some other way. There will be no passengers on the team, as I have had numerous occasions where certain members feel that the bar should sponsor the players. The Bar and I can do without them. Sorry but I have to make this very clear to all.
For starters, we share the cost of the pitch rental, probably about RM15-20 per person per session, depending on the number of persons turning up. The more, the merrier and cheaper.
As for the finances needed for the tournaments in Bangkok and Italy, we usually try to obtain some portion of the required funds from sponsors. As a guide:-
i. for the 13th World Cup in Turkey'2006, our total expenditure was approximately RM200,000-00 for a squad of 19 players. We raised about RM100,000-00 through sponsorship and contributions from several corporate bodies. The registration fee alone was EURO7,000-00 (at today's exchange rates about RM35,000-00).
ii. for the Asian Cup in 2007, each player contributed about RM2,000-00 as it was fully self funded. The registration fee was EURO2,500-00.
We can discuss the details later, but for starters, lets get the football going first. Trust me, I have played in 2 Lawyers' World Cup and the experience of meeting up in what unofficially is one of the larger gatherings/convention/conference of lawyers from all over the world is not an experience to be missed.
Call me if you need any further clarification or meet me on Friday nite.

Dear Mr. Special One,
Can't run to save my life, but do you need a non-qualified "tukang urut"?

Dear All,
Take a break from all the BS (politics, roadblocks, arrests etc...) thats been happening around us...football training continues tomorrow (9.30pm till 12am), same place, same time. Release some of that frustration on a leatherball...All are invited. Call me at 0122001262 for further info.
NPNG Sports Centre (near Sri Damansara) Lot 9610, Taman Desa Aman, 47000 Sungai Buloh, Selangor Darul Ehsan Website: www.npng.com.my (please check out the website for the location map) PLEASE BRING BOOTS. THIS IS NOT A FUTSAL PITCH.
Last week, apart from the regulars, only 3 newcomers attended. Despite having more than 1000 views, I cannot believe that the Bar does not have anymore footballing lawyers. Only 16 turned up. We have several sessions before the fasting month begins and I hope to see more new talent on the field.

Dear Members & Pupils,
Training as usual this Friday, same place, same time. Last Friday's session was slightly more encouraging as several new faces attended.
So, if you are interested, please attend. There will not be any selection until after the Raya break. All are invited, irregardless of whether you feel that you are a kaki bangku or ronaldinho (more appropriate with all that weight he has put on..)
See you all on Friday...by the way, I see that the hits/views in relation to this topic has exceeded 2000....if only 2% of them would turn up....sigh...
