Peaceful Campaigning Commended - 2009/04/07 07:34I must commend all parties for the erstwhile peaceful campaigning in the by-elections in the two hills (bukit) and one shaft (batang).
There is nothing sensual in the image of two hills and one shaft. Indeed, the by-elections are a bellwether of sorts for the incoming administration.
They do reflect somewhat the feelings on the ground.
If we are sincere in One Malaysia, as the latest slogan seems to say, let us from now on celebrate life, every life of every Malaysian. Let us from now on respect life, every life of every Malaysian.
I pray that all our leaders in the ruling and opposition parties drop their arrogance and serve the people with humility.
I also pray that the incoming Cabinet be guided by the enduring principles of love and compassion as well as humility and respect.

Re:Peaceful Campaigning Commended - 2009/04/07 18:07Police in Kedah have detained two opposition supporters for stopping a bus carrying allegedly "phantom workers."
Apparently, Kedah police chief Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan said checks had confirmed that they were "merely party workers."
Why "party workers" are being transported to Bukit Selambau on voting day remains a mystery since it makes more sense for them to be there to campaign BEFORE votes are cast.
Campaigning stops at 12 midnight the night before the ballots are cast.
But then our police have apparently verified that they are party workers.
Sometimes, I cannot help but adore the very path that some of our police officers tread.
All in all, it is still commendable that Malaysians exercised their vote in a relatively peaceful way, with tear gases making their isolated appearances only in the Bukit Gantang parliamentary constituency.
