Collection of Funds at EGM - 2008/09/21 08:22
On 24 May 2008, the President of the Malaysian Bar announced the setting up of a fund to raise money for the families of the 4 lawyers detained under the Internal Security Act on 13 December 2007 - P. Uthayakumar, M. Manoharan, R. Kenghadaran, V. Ganabatirau. The Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee (KLBC) has set up and co-ordinated the collection of funds in this regard.
At the Extraordinary General Meeting of the Malaysian Bar on Saturday 20 September 2008, 2 collection boxes were circulated amongst members, urging them to contribute generously to this fund. At the end of the EGM, we managed to collect RM10,845-20 from members. The Vice President and Secretary of the Malaysian Bar, Ragunath Kesavan and Lim Chee Wee, were then approached to make up the difference and a total sum of RM11,000-00 was deposited into the bank account opened and maintained by the KLBC for this purpose. This does not include monies contributed by members to Gerakan Mansuhkan ISA and the Malaysian Bar, who both had separate collection boxes at the EGM.
We would like to thank members of the Malaysian Bar who contributed generously at the EGM. We would also like to thank members of the Malaysian Bar who asked for the details of the bank account and gave us assurances that they would make contributions directly into the bank account.
Members who could not attend the EGM are urged to consider contributing generously to the fund by direct deposit into the bank account. The details of the bank account are as follows :-

Alternatively, members can make out a cheque payable to “Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee” and send the same to the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee, Tingkat 8, Wisma Kraftangan, No.9, Jalan Tun Perak, 50050 Kuala Lumpur or hand the same over to the staff at the Bar Room, 5th Floor, Court Complex at Jalan Duta. Please indicate the purpose of the contribution at the back of the cheque or in a cover letter.
