 1st AsiaLawyers Football Cup, 25-29 January 2007, Bangkok, Thailand - 2007/01/11 12:44 Dear Members,

After the Malaysian Bar Football team's exploits in the Mundiavocat : World Lawyers' Football Cup in Turkey in May 2006, we now continue with our quest for international sporting challenges in the 1st AsiaLawyers Football Cup to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from 25th to 29th January 2007. Check out the website at www.asialawyers-footballcup.com for further details.

The tournament is jointly organised by Corporate Sport Organisation, the oragnisers of the Mundiavocat Series and the Lawyers' Council of Thailand. A total of eight teams have confirmed their participation with lawyers coming from Thailand, Japan, China, South Korea and other countries within this region.

The Malaysian Bar Football team will once again be represented by members who competed in the Mundiavocat in Turkey with several execeptional talent who were unable to make the trip to Turkey. Fresh trials were held in November 2006 and since December 2006, the team has been in intensive training.

As usual, I will keep the Malaysian Bar updated on our exploits and progress in the tournament from Bangkok.

2. Hopefully we will do better than our National Team, currently at Bangkok for the Asean Cup [formerly known as Tiger Cup].

I'm sure a lot of lawyers would appreciate a weekend in Bangkok, and some may even be able to take a few days off either side. (I can't unfortunately as I two other functions that day.)

I see from the schedule that matches start Thursday and Friday, with the final and prize giving ceremony on Sunday.

Any takers to organise this? Ric .. sorry to dump more on your already overburdened shoulders but maybe some one from our NYLC can take this on.

Thanks for the support and encouragement. Of course we need supporters at the tournament. When the team was in Turkey for the Lawyers' World Cup last May, most of the other teams had their own 'cheerleaders' especially the Koreans and Japanese. The Italians and South Americans had their own songs!! And even at this level, the atmosphere was brilliant.. We just had our substitutes to cheer us on...The matches will be held at Klong Chan Sports Centre, Bangkok.

The team would gladly appreciate any kind of support. For your information, the Malaysian Bar team will be staying at Zenith Sukhumvit Hotel, Sukhumvit Soi 3 (www.zenith-hotel.com) and the team will be arriving in Bangkok on 24th Jan. Do make the trip to Bangkok if you can FOR the tournament and the chance to meet up with fellow lawyers from our Asian neighbours...jovial & funny blokes, especially from Thailand and South Korea...
