Malaysian Bar Forum

Sunday's Forum on Constitution - Please Attend! - 2006/03/10 11:27 Please spare some time to attend the Forum on Sunday, 12th March 2005 (the day after tomorrow) at the Crystal Crown Hotel in Jalan Utara, Petaling Jaya .

Our country seems to now be at a an important crossroad.

The dichotomy of thought within Malaysian society can clearly be seen by the postings in this forum from time to time.

Are we headed towards the transformation of Malaysia into a theocracy where all decisions are made in accordance with the decrees of the Learned in accordance with their interpretation of the religious teachings of a particular religion (begging, of course, many questions, not least amongst them 'who decides who are the Learned')?

Or, are we going to be able to continue living in a democracy (sort of) with laws made by our elected representatives (sort of) who exercise their independent minds and judgments (sort of ... at least they are deemed to be doing so) in scrutinising legislation subject to the supremacy of the Federal Constitution (in theory, at least)?

Please attend, and encourage all those interested in the future direction of Malaysian society to attend.

A link to the brochure for the event, can be found on the scroll bar at the top right hand corner of this website, and is pasted below for convenience. RSVP to rajen@malaysianbar.org.my
