1988 Judicial Crisis : 10.5 mil & Receiving Pension all the while... - 2008/11/07 15:08 I was shocked at the quantum given out - and also the manner it was given out, with Salleh Abbas taking the lion share of RM5 million, 2 others taking RM2 million each - and the rest only RM500,000 each.

"..Nazri said the largest portion went to former lord president Tun Salleh Abbas, who received RM5 million.

Tan Sri Azmi Kamaruddin and Datuk George Edward Seah each received RM2 million, while Tan Sri Wan Hamzah Mohd Salleh and the families of the late Tan Sri Eusoffe Abdolcadeer and the late Tan Sri Wan Suleiman Pawanteh each received RM500,000..." _ NST, 7/11/08, RM10.5 million for six former judges

Why were not informed that the said judges had been drawing their pensions all this time. (Were they not 'sacked'? It seems that they were asked to retire earlier - so pensions have been paid out all the while.

"...Nazri said Salleh has been receiving a pension of RM5,102.16 a month, Seah RM5,916.09, Wan Hamzah RM6,548.59, Azmi RM5,916.90, the late Eusoffe RM4,815 and the late Wan Suleiman RM4,815....

...In reply, Nazri said the six were not sacked but were asked to retire early.

"As a result, they would still be entitled to pensions." " - _ NST, 7/11/08, RM10.5 million for six former judges

I wonder what was all that about how Salleh Abas - not receiving pension - poor man - had to get back to practice to survive blah...blah...blah

The impression that many had was that they were sacked and as such had lost their pensions..

And when talk about making this gratuitous payment by the government came up - many were saying that they hope that they will receive a sum equivalent to the 'back-dated pensions' if they had not sacked. I was even advocating that they be hereafter be given their pension payments after the so call "gratuitous payment' was made.

By the revelation, I feel deceived. Many would feel deceived..

Who knew that they were being paid their pensions all this while...

After the revelation of these facts of late, and also remembering the role that the Bar played in hosting the dinner (which the government paid for)...and a re-thinking the meaning of the whole 1988 judicial crisis...makes me want to sit down and discuss the matter.

Would the this 10.5 million dollar pay-off mean an end to this Judicial Crisis?

The fact that these affected judges also chose not to reveal the fact that they were receiving their pensions all this while also is disturbing - this is the Judicial Crisis.

I see that the Judicial Crisis has just become even worse with

All these revelations only makes it clear that the Judicial Crisis is far from over ... it is just escalating and becoming worse...the appointment of Zaki Azmi as the new head of the Judiciary just makes it even worse...
