Sorry, bankdrafts or money orders only! - 2008/11/01 10:28
Since the Bar Council's circular no. 262/2008 there has been no news on whether the courts will accept cheques ("legal firms' cheques")again in the near future.
It seems that the main reason why the courts refuse to accept cheques is because some cheques issued by some firms were dishonored when presented for payments.
If that is the case, why not just ban those particular firms from paying by cheques? Or, is it because there is simply no other better solution?
Not only buying bankdrafts or money orders is time wasting, we have to pay commissions for buying them!
I hope the new Lord President can look into this matter urgently. The courts should provide friendly services and facilities to the public. Not only the courts should accept cheques, the courts should also consider accepting filing fees or fines by way of credit cards!
