Drop the 5% Service Tax - 2009/03/11 16:35With the latest RM60 billion stimulus announced by our Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister yesterday, I would have thought that the 5 per cent Service Tax that is now imposed on services involving lawyers, accountants and company secretaries would be summarily dropped.
This does not take very much imagination.
The programme to let our country ride out the depression-like economy requires a lot more imagination.
With America, Europe and Japan in deep recession, we can no longer rely on export-driven growth.
It is time we give our agricultural and pastoral economy the boost that is required. Domestic tourism must also be targetted.

I agree with your suggestion for the 5% GST to be abolished.
There is a broad scope of taxes that are heavily imposed on a normal wage earner's salary.
In fact, lawyers who are struggling to earn a decent living should not be discouraged in times like these.
More should be carried out to encourage lawyers who have started on their own to stand equal with those from other profession.
Your suggestion have surely come at the right time.
