Re:Where is the walk for justice? the late Thinakaran Raman - 2009/08/19 08:08Replying to Tan Chun Ming, the filing of any civil suit will only come after the completion of the SUHAKAM inquiry and its report. Under the SUHAKAM Act, if any proceedings are commenced, SUHAKAM will have to cease any public inquiry.

Re:Where is the walk for justice? the late Thinakaran Raman - 2009/08/20 23:21Dear All,
The Criminal Law Committee of the Bar Council has been tasked to follow up with the police in respect of this matter and also with regards to the murder of other lawyers which todate remain unresolved.
Further, the Chairman of the Penang Bar Committee will be contacting the family of the late Thinakaran to offer assistance, to pursue this matter with the authorities, as decided in the Council meeting last Saturday.
In respect of the 5 lawyers who were arrested recently, a civil suit will be filed after the completion of the ongoing Suhakam inquiry.
The welfare of members has always been the priority of the Bar Council, and this will always remain so.

Re:Where is the walk for justice? the late Thinakaran Raman - 2009/08/22 16:19There should be a separate committee created to protect the right's of the members of the Bar.
I agree with Ms.Tan view on this.
Let's look inwards a bit although the vision is to safe the country.

Re: The walk towards justice. - 2009/08/23 06:36Dear Secretary,
Thank you for your reply.
Pertaining to your statement that :
“The welfare of members has always been the priority of the Bar Council, and this will always remain so”, kindly let us know the answers to the following questions:
1) Can lawyers with problems request the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee for assistance?
2) If so, would they be charged a fee for the assistance (to be) rendered?
3) Also, will the Bar Council charge for the usage of the meeting/discussion rooms?
Thank you.
