Where is the walk for justice? the late Thinakaran Raman - 2009/07/31 12:24There was another murder of a fellow member of the Bar, the late Mr. Thinakaran Raman a fornight ago but alas no reponse from the Bar Council.
I was expecting to some support to family of the late Mr. Thinakaran by the members of the Bar and the Bar Council- the only thing that was said was by the Penang Bar Committee chairman. Are we saying only the Penang Bar committee should get involve?
How sad is that? We will run and protect everyone but not one of own??? Perhaps, we are not human enough to have any rights to be protected?
I hear among the corridors of the courts that he was practising criminal law- so what I say? does that mean you should die after being forced to take detergent? Where is the dignity in practise and the respect for the another member of the bar?
Where is the walk for justice to investigate the murders of those 5 lawyers? Why are we silent?

Re:Where is the walk for justice? the late Thinakaran Raman - 2009/08/12 09:52Dear All,
It is probably time for the Bar Council to have/start off with a Care & Concerned Committee to take charge of the WELFARE and NEEDS of our fellow members.
We need to take care of the needs of our own members now - especially when the Bar has already Progressively Taken Charge of so many aspects of the Public's Needs.
What are your views?
Regards.

Re:Where is the walk for justice? the late Thinakaran Raman - 2009/08/12 13:45I thought the formation of the Bar itself is to protect the members?
Anyway, I am still curious about whether there will be a civil suit file by the Bar pursuant to the EGM on the lawyers arrested issue. If that ring any bell.

Re:Where is the walk for justice? the late Thinakaran Raman - 2009/08/12 21:23I am glad that Mr. Ong and Ms. Tan were kind enough to publish some words of concern about the death of the late Mr. Thinakaran.
I don't know him personally but I do know that he had died leaving 2 very young children.
The reason for his killing is unknown and seeing that the murder of the late Mr.Pathamanaban (another member of the bar) who was killed with repeated stabbing of an ice pick in 1997 has remained unsolved, I sincerely belief that this murder also won't be solved.
This is sad indeed. How are we supposed to fight for other people's rights when we ourselves became victims? Even tragic is the fact that no one not even, our own members will fight for us?
I am not saying that we are above the law but at least we should be treated equally before the law. I am appalled at the double standard.

Re:Where is the walk for justice? the late Thinakaran Raman - 2009/08/15 05:46We sometimes do not realise that we need to assist lawyers who have problems pertaining to their dealings with family members and friends and also, with their own clients.
In such an event, when encountered with problems, which committee of the Bar Council should such lawyers turn to for assistance, or are they supposed to struggle out on their own, with all our specific committees having their own specific agendas in assisting members of the public?
Can lawyers with problems request the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committe Members for assistance?
If they turn to the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee, would they be charged a fee for services rendered? Also, will the Bar Council charge for the usage of the meeting/discussion rooms?
It is indeed an irony that WE ARE OF NO ASSISTANCE TO OURSELVES !
Kind Regards
