It is still currently "under construction", and should be launched on 1st May 2008.
The KL Bar Blog will then be on a 'Test Period' for 3 months. KLBC will evaluate the utility of the Blog at the end of that period, and will decide if the Blog should continue thereafter.
For the moment, Blog contributors will be the KL Bar Committee Members themselves. Also, the 'comments' feature will be temporarily disabled.
KLBC may allow non-committee members to contribute in the future, though at the moment, this is not in the plans yet.
We however wish to get feedback from our members on this Blog. Since we still "constructing" it, this would be a good time for your to offer views and comments for the KL Bar IT Committee to consider.
Thank you.

Re:Coming Soon : KL Bar Blog - 2008/04/15 10:05Hi Richard,
Do you/we really need a KL Bar Blog since we already have this Malaysian Bar Website?
I humbly propose that you and your IT people from the KL Bar get together and work out all 'issues' with our Malaysian Bar Website committee members - so as to improve our main Bar website in all respects rather than setting up another one.
Probably you might also want to share with us your reasons and intentions in having another website - the KL Blog!
I wonder if the Selangor Bar will also want to start our own website, after your KL Blog.
Good luck, anyway.

Re:Coming Soon : KL Bar Blog - 2008/04/15 11:12Hi Peek Guat,
KL Bar Blog is independent and distinct from the Malaysian Bar Website. The main purpose of the KL Bar Blog is to have communication between KL Bar members and the KL Bar Committee. For the moment, the Blog is a little unofficial, somewhat casual and therefore informal.
There are also State issues which may not be related to the National Bar website, and the Blog would be an additional help (over and above the usual e-mails) for the State Bar Committees to invite comments and feedback from members on those issues.
I would encourage all State Bars to have their own Blogs. It's a great way to communicate with members.
The Blog is free and unlike a website where the State Bar may have to pay yearly fees to retain the domain name, and also to pay fees to 'park' the website at a particular Server, Blogs dont incur that costs. The major cost would the Committee's time. The Committee members would have to spend time to upload postings and keep an eye on the comments which comes in therafter. (something the Malaysian Bar Webmaster has gone through for the last 3 years)
The benefits of the Blog is too wide to state all here, but I believe its a positive step to venture into, when one is involved in the administration of an organisation like the State Bar.
Thanks for your comments Peek Guat. I look forward to more comments from members.
Thanks

Re:Coming Soon : KL Bar Blog - 2008/04/15 12:55Dear Ric,
I think blog is a great way to reach out to the members. Many members would want to know of the updates concerning the committees's activities and apart from the conventional form of letters and emails, blog is just another alternative.
Well done.

Re:Coming Soon : KL Bar Blog - 2008/04/16 09:53Hi Richard,
Thank you for bothering to reply to my humble queries.
You have indeed cleared some of my doubts - although I still believe that you will be of great assistance to our Mr. Webmaster of the Malaysian Bar Website (if you would offer to work with him - in any manner both of you deem fit) because, as some of us see it, our Mr Webmaster he insufficient time to answer to all our FORUM needs/queries.
Please know, also, that I sincerely appreciate your reply and obviously regard you as a 'responsible' KL Bar committee member indeed, and similarly, a 'responsible' representative of our Malaysian Bar.
I hope I will not be troubling you any further in seeking your replies to the following :
1) I am wondering if the KL Blog is also meant to bring in some additional financial income to the KL Bar.
2) As to whether you will insist that the KL Bar members register with the KL Blog in order to avail themselves to the news therein; or, whether their registration will be considered AUTOMATIC - since they are already members of the KL Bar.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Tan Peek Guat

Re:Coming Soon : KL Bar Blog - 2008/04/16 12:44Hi Chung Yee,
Thank you for your supportive comments.
Hi Peek Guat,
I've quoted your queries, and below each query, I've provided an explaination:-
1) I am wondering if the KL Blog is also meant to bring in some additional financial income to the KL Bar.
The principle purpose of the Blog is to have an 6additional method of communication between KL Bar's Committee Member and our members. We also organise Forums and conduct surveys whenever we need feedback from members. Of course the good old letter from KL Bar is another form of communication.
But, with the Blog - KL Bar would have a cyber mouthpiece. Our KL Bar Website will likely remain as our Official Webpage to make official announcements, but the Blog will (as mentioned in my earlier posting) likely retain some informal characteristics.
So, with that long explanation, what I am trying to say is that income is not paramount at the moment. However, in the event the Blog generates high number of 'hits', then the IT Committee of KL Bar may recommend KL Bar Committee to allow advertisements to be placed there. But for the moment the issue of generating income from the Blog is not our priority.
2) As to whether you will insist that the KL Bar members register with the KL Blog in order to avail themselves to the news therein; or, whether their registration will be considered AUTOMATIC - since they are already members of the KL Bar.
Does a KL Bar member need to register for the Blog? That issue, the IT Committee is still discussing on the how, the whys and the whats - hence the 3 months Trial Period that we have imposed for the KL Bar Blog. So I apologise, but I cant give a conclusive answer on that yet.
I hope members appreciate that the KL Bar's IT Committee is in unchartered territory here. We've never had a Blog before, and from what we checked, we believe we're probably the first State Bar to try this Blog concept. So, we're a little careful and I foresee we may make mistakes along the way, but we'll try to minimise that.
But as the Chair of IT Comm, I am willing to take this risk to try this new thing, as I see great benefits in the Blog for the members and the Bar.
As for assisting Malaysian Bar Webmaster, I am of the view that we're all 'helping' in our own way, with the Webreports, writing responsibly when posting Forums, etc etc. I am certain the job of the Malaysian Bar Webmaster is onerous, as I can imagine the Webmaster constantly checking mails, forums postings and/or comments on the website. If the Webmaster needs assistance from the the IT Comm of KLBC, we will do what we can for the Webmaster.
I am also certain that Bar Council with 36 members would be able to assist the Webmaster too. I notice when the list of the Committee Chairs were released, some Council members were not holding any posts, maybe those Council members may assist the Webmaster.
Anyway - I hope my reply above will go some way to answer your queries and as always, I look forward to any further comments about the Blog from members.
regards, richard wee
