Photos of lawyers actions of protest, etc. - 2006/10/20 23:30I was just perusing the photo albums and photos in the website - and there were dinner/social functions photos, photos of talks/forums, sport events, AGM photos.....BUT what has happened to the photos where lawyers took actions that we ought to be proud of. I believe that we should include these photos (new ones if we have them) or scan them from the old photographs - so that lawyers now (and the future will remeber these events....) and be proud to know that lawyers do not just talk, socialize and play games only BUT will also take to the streets when there in the furtherance of the cause of justice without fear (of being arrested for illegal assembly --- etc..) and favour. We will get our hands dirty, walk in the hot sun and rain, carry them placards. We will not just go to the courts only - but to the Police Stations and even the police headquarters, to Parliment, to SUHAKAM and even to the streets in the exercise of our obligations for the furtherance of justice.
Photos of some of the more recent events like this that should be in the Malaysian Bar website are:-
a) Lawyers protest against the arrest and detention of fellow lawyer at the PJ Police Headquaters, where a memorandum of protest was handed over.
b) Lawyers march and protest in Bukit Aman - in solidarity also with our leaders as they confronted the IGP and hopefully expressed our unhappiness about what had happened to lawyers
c) Lawyers at the Parliament - again over the same issue protesting the police treatment of lawyers carrying out the functions and duties as lawyers.
d) The candle light vigil at Dataran Merdeka initiated by the Bar Council about the happenings and attrocities happening in Lebanon
e) The candle light vigil over the Moorthi affair that was held for about 1 month - in which even Yang Poh was there on not one (but several nights)
Photographs of events of the Past that should be in our website:-
a) The March on Human Rights Day - organised by the Bar Council (2005)
b) The protest of lawyers and the nading over of the memorandum at the PJ IPD when Cheah Kah Peng was arrested (2000)
c) The march of the100 over lawyers to the front of the then Federal Court Building - in solidarity and in support of Zainur Zakaria (1999)
d) Lawyers at PULAPOL, Dang Wang Police Station when hundreds of persons were arrested in 1998 for allegedly "illegal assemble" and in some of the biggest joint trials in Malaysia, which ended up with the biggest number of acquitals ...(1998/1999)
e) the Lawyers march to Parliment (somewhere in the late 70s)
It is important that these photos where we out-did ourselves and showed that lawyers are not just talk - but also people of action.
There are photographs of these events --- from the press, and even should be in the Bar Council or even KL Bar - it should be obtained and put into OUR album to remind us that we did some interesting actions as well - and not just confined ourselves to the battles in court....

Re:Photos of lawyers actions of protest, etc. - 2006/10/20 23:58Dear Charles,
Thank you for highlighting this. In fact, pictures of most of the Bar Events since the launch of this revamped website are published on this website, either in the Album section or in the individual news articles. Do use the search feature, and you should be able to locate them.
However, I do need members' help if we want to create more photo albums recording the many events of the Bar. Firstly, there should be at least 16 pictures of any single event before it is practical to create an album for that event. Of course, the picture quality must be of reasonable standard.
Members can then save them in high resolution and send the CD to Mr Soon Per Lang at the Secretariat, and I will do the rest to upload them to the website.
