Seven cops on ‘torture’ charge - 2009/01/15 17:57 What is this? After the nude-squatting case some years back that triggered off so much public anguish, I would have thought that "torture" would never be used in our police stations.

Seven cops on ‘torture’ charge
Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, Kuala Lumpur: Seven policemen, including three sergeants and two corporals, were charged in Court today for allegedly scalding with hot water a 27-year-old man and 18-year-old teenager at the Brickfields police district headquarters.
The cops, all from the criminal investigation department, were charged in the Sessions Court here under Section 506 and Section 304 of the Penal Code for collectively committing criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt to extort confession.

Here, if the news is right, we have three sergeants, two corporals and two lance-corporals all ganging up against someone in their custody.

Isn't that the culture of bullying? The Malaysian police force exists to protect all Malaysians and not to prey on them.

Custodial violence and custodial deaths should be outlawed years ago. If a death occurs in custody, a coroner's inquiry must be held.

Malaysians cannot condone custodial violence and custodial deaths.
