			<title>QUERY CIVIL SERVICE NEUTRALITY</title>
			<link>http://www.malaysianbar.org.my/opinions/comments/sold_out_at_the_altar_of_malay_unity.html#pc_7426</link>
<description>From my own experience, my Thai Chinese sister-in-law, a graduate from Chulalongkorn University, waited for nearly 25 years, all in vain, for her application for permanent residency to be approved.

Now that her children have graduated overseas and are working in Thailand, she is back in Thailand ... and working again.

So what's new? You can expect to hear the grouses of these victims of such institutionalised racim.

Dara Waheda, although the linkage between the problems of the writer's mum and Malay unity is tenuous, the woes are nevertheless real and affect more people than you think.

I say just this: If the bureaucrats are just going their job, they either approve or reject any individual application. But of course, things are not that simple. The political masters are breathing down their neck.

So, where is the neutrality of the civil service?

			<title>What is Unity to you?</title>
			<link>http://www.malaysianbar.org.my/opinions/comments/sold_out_at_the_altar_of_malay_unity.html#pc_7424</link>
<description>When one fails to hear, he fails to understand, when one fails to understand, he fails to compromise, when one fails to compromise, he fails to accept the truth including accepting the truth of a UNITY.

When MCA and MIC urged the Chinese and Indians to unite, never it become a huge issue, nor we accused them as being small-minded. But when the UMNO did the same, some quarters considered it as a threat against them by the Malays.

What one fails to understand is, it was UMNO who kept asking for Malay Unity but does that also reflects the view of Malays as a whole? No, definitely not Malays or Malaysians who do not depend on priviledges or quotas.

I really do not know what else to say other than asking the writer to stand in front of the mirror and tell me who is he? A chinese or a malaysian.

I really could not equate your mother's legal jeopardy with the Malay Unity. Is it because of the unity that has make your mother's life miserable? I could not agree with you if your answer is YES as to me your problem is purely administrative.

If you have problems with the public authority, it is policy, the rules and the regulations that need to be challenged. If you have problems with the current ruling government, it is the ruling parties that need to be challenged. NOT the malays, not the chinese, not the Indians, not the socio-political identity of the citizens.

I do not know what unity means to you if you think a unity of one race a threat to other races. If one race kept fighting among themselves, would that affect the whole nation as well? &quot;Tarak gaduh, taraklah problem kawan&quot;.

<title>WHAT OTHER CARDS LEFT OF THEM?</title>
			<link>http://www.malaysianbar.org.my/opinions/comments/sold_out_at_the_altar_of_malay_unity.html#pc_7423</link>
<description>UMNO has always been exploiting the &quot;Malay Unity&quot;, &quot;Malay Supremacy&quot; sensitivities in order to stay in power for the past 50 over years.

When Malaysians are now marching towards &quot;Malaysian Unity&quot;, there is no wonder that UMNO again raises its &quot;Malay Unity&quot; card high in the air. Otherwise, what other cards left of them?
