My dear Stephen

I am sad that one, just ONE man can run down a country.

But I am more sad that the rest of the men allow him to do so! :'(

SALUTE TO JUSTICE IAN CHIN

The disclosures made by his Lordship about the interference of an autocratic PM and his cronies both inside and outside the judiciary is most welcomed. I am sure that many if not most members of the BAR and the Bench will stand behind your Lordship at least to put the judiciary back into the right track. Surely, the God is now in front of us punishing this PM and his cronies for all the misdeeds they committed for the last 20 years or so.

SWEET REPOSE INTERRUPTED

My dear Siew Chin

Ian Chin said the generally held view is that Dr. Mahathir ...

"kept a docket on everyone useful but with a skeleton in their cupboard so that he can manipulate then on pain of disclosing the skeleton."

Where have I heard of that view before? I believe I heard it repeated long before I left for New Zealand in November 1989.

Of course, I do not agree that Judges be sent to boot camp, much less the practice of government funds being abused to indoctrinate civil servants with the policies of the party in power. That, in my book, is an abuse of funds and an abuse of power.

The neutrality and professionalism of the civil service in a democracy, in this case ours, is something that cannot be compromised. I do not forget the prized independence of our judiciary in the instant case.

The neutrality and professionalism of the civil service is, among other things, intended to ensure that they work in the collective interest of our nation-state.

I am sure our imagination need not be stretched to entertain the view that some, if not all, of our Founding Fathers must be crying ... even to interrupt their sweet and well-earned repose in that distant shore.
