Good move BUT maybe we could do more trimming down of committees

There can be further reduction in the number of committees .... we have to look at the annual report and the activity level of the committees and merge a few more committees..

But reducing the committees alone may not be the solution - we must also look at the expenses incurred by these committees... and we should limit the number of members in each of these committees... There should not be a BIG national level committee - but there should be a slim representative national level committee with equally active State and/or Regional level committees as well. The NLAC model is good to note...

There must also be a moving away from face to face sit down in a meeting-room kind of meetings -- we have to use the e-groups, chat rooms and even tele-conferencing for meeting. After all all you need is just a little web-cam and you are ready for e-meetings which will save so much cost..

We have to re-evaluate why we set up certain committees in the first place, and whether there is still a need for such a committee. Move away from "having to give each council member a committee" to chair kind of sentiments..

Do we really need a Bahasa Melayu committee, Islamic Finance Committee (This could ,easily be dealt with the Corporate & Commercial Law Committee. Some areas of law have committees BUT some do not ....do we really need committees for the various areas of law..

Dear Mdm President,

Can't the Campaign for a Judicial Commission be merged with the Human Rights Committee? It would appear that all the valuable investment on time, research and money would just go into waste. Please reconsider but ignore if you have other plans which you may wish to share with us.

Thank You. You are doing a great job and we are proud of you.

Working in the Best Interest of the Malaysian Bar.

The move by the Bar Council Committee is to be applauded.

It is a wise move indeed. The Bar Council has now decided to cut its "clothes" according to the cloth ! Praise God for the solution found.

Yes, there can be amalgation, there can be the removal of some of the committees.

Over and above all, there can also be the negation of claims to be made by committee members. Those who have decided to serve at the Bar Council Committees ought to serve willingly including the footing of all their personal expenditures involved. If the serving ones are unwilling to forego the claims that they have been allowed so far, then they need to withdraw and decline their offices so that we can put into the committees those other lawyers who are equally 'capable' but added to that, they are also, at the same time, willing to forego to forego all the claims now allowed to the committee members. Cheerio! What about that??? Any volunteers??? Yes, of course, me for one. I humbly offer my services if allowed.

Tan Peek Guat

With all the measures undertaken, surely 4.375 million will be sufficient amount of money for the Bar Committee to undertake all the necessary programmes for the benefit of the Malaysian Bar Members, and pay for the wages of ALL the Secretariat Staff numbering at 83 and not to be further increased. - Tan Peek Guat
