Talk and threats being made about abolishing the system should stop. Let us all work together, and build consensus on how we can improve our system which is already under heavy strain. Most definitely, efforts to train and build a base of pupils and young-er lawyers to lead our Legal Aid programmes and initiatives should continue. Our engagement with Government as highlighted should be to concertedly seek and obtain funding for Legal Aid work. Legal Aid should, under human rights norms, be provided by the Government for those in need. In parallel, the Bar's present efforts should complement the Government's system.
