When these people ask "apa salahnya syarikat bumiputera mendapat tender dari kerajaan?", do they also ask themselves "apa salahnya tender kerajaan diberi kepada syarikat (be it a bumi company or non-bumi company) yang memberi harga yang paling baik ?".

Do these people need any reminder that the objective of the new economic policy is to "membasmi kemiskinan TANPA MENGIRA KAUM"? It was never intended (at least on paper) to allow any race to monopolize government projects.

If my memory serves me right, the name of the Japanese consultant is Kenichi Ohmae.

NATIONAL WEALTH SIPHONED

My dear Peek Guat

At its inception, the New Economic Policy or whatever the policy is now called is premised on a "growing" cake.

This means that the nation is an oven, with its peoples all combining to bake the cake and make it larger. Of course, it also means that we bake more cakes so that it can be distributed.

However, what has happened over the last 36 years of its implementation is that some Malaysian leaders do not bake the cake or make more cakes. They just bring along a knife and start cutting the cake or what part of the cake they want.

To use another metaphor, the fat cows are milked until they are near death. Of course, many of them have died. Look at Cold Storage, Cycle & Carriage, Malayan Credit, Harrison & Crosfields and many other First Board companies. Where have they and their assets gone? Stripped! And some are just beyond recognition.

A Japanese consultant brought in by the Malaysian Government told us in the 1980s that the focus should be on PRODUCTION of wealth, and not DISTRUBUTION. Today, we have the super rich ... with many in the kampungs staring poverty in the face every day.

Herein lies our problem. The national wealth has been siphoned for consumption by the chosen few.

The Economic Cake

In the beginning, when the DEB / NEP (New Economic Policy) was first introduced, we Malaysians had very high hopes; and our lives had since then, been built around those hopes, and our minds have since then, been cultivated such that they are always dominated by the true sense of 'UNITY', love and care.

We had hoped that OUR NATIONAL 'economic cake' would eventually be increased and enlarged in size - so as to be large enough to cater for the needs of ALL MALAYSIANS.

However, looking at the 'trouble' and 'strive' to get a taste of the 'miserable' cake, even after 49 years of "celebrations", this 'poor' cake must be indeed, still of its original, small size.

Otherwise, why all the trouble?

It is better not to have any cake at all than one which causes us so much trouble.

Let us all enjoy Life.

First, as Malaysians; then, be trouble-free.

We should enjoy the fresh air (which no one can envelope and sell to us); and then, the good sunshine which gives us Vitamins for free - and which no one, however enterprising he may be, can take away from us and cost us a fee.

We, being a religious nation, should appreciate the fact that it is only our good and gracious God who has been so kind to us, and given us SOMETHING FOR FREE.

So, Let us not trouble 'trouble' till trouble troubles us - and, definitely not a Tsunami!
