The Professional Standards & Development Committee (PSDC) of the Malaysian Bar Council wishes to invite you to a series of seminar on "Islamic Banking" on 12th July, 16th August, 6th September 2007 at the Bar Council Auditorium. The seminar will be conducted by En. Mohamed Ismail, Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. Participants are expected to complete all 3 series in order to gain a thorough insight of Islamic banking.

The seminar aims to give a better working knowledge of the basic principles based on Islamic banking practice, present the fundamental difference of Islamic banking & conventional banking, unveil the comparison between Islamic financing transaction & conventional lending, discuss the law relating to Islamic banking, justify incorrect views about Islamic financing, explain 'how major project financing using Islamic financial transactions is just as efficient as conventional loans granting' as well as 'why Islamic banking shouldn't be seen as a variant of conventional banking' and as one in which 'interest' is replaced by 'profit' The approach is to focus on a practical point of view, while being supplemented by case studies of financial transactions and court cases.

The seminar will benefit Advocates & Solicitors, Counsel from the Attorney General's Chambers, In-house Counsel & Legal Advisors, Bankers, Financial Planners, Tax and Stamp Duty Officers, academic staffs, students & anyone interested to learn the reasons & rationale of why Islamic banking is done in the way it is done, hence gaining more confident in managing Islamic banking transactions.
