The general opinion of many retired judges and members of the legal fraternity is that the current procedure for the promotion and appointment of judges needs to be revamped. The Malaysian Bar has consistently taken the position that what this nation needs is an Independent Judicial Appointment and Promotion Commission, one that would deal with the issue of appointments and promotions in a transparent manner.
In order to explore the pros and cons of such a Commission, the Campaign for a Judicial Commission is organizing a Debate which will feature two well know political personalities: Datuk Zaid Ibrahim who will speak in support of the proposition and Dato' Seri Mohamed Nazri who will oppose the motion.
The debate will be moderated by Dato' V C George who will conclude the program with a questions and answer session.
Members of the Bar are cordially invited to attend what promises to be an engaging encounter between two speakers, well versed with the issue.
