PETALING JAYA: Government-aided schools will receive a total of RM350mil under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP) the biggest allocation to date.

The amount includes RM100mil initially earmarked under the 9MP, a further RM50mil in the midterm review and RM200mil under the economic stimulus package.

Tomorrow, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will officially present the RM200mil allocation under the stimulus package at a ceremony in SJKC Chee Wen in Subang Jaya.

In a statement, Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said that the increased allocation was a reflection of the government’s commitment to the development of government-aided schools.

“This is in line with the National Education Blueprint (2006-2010) that schools in other streams are not left behind,” he said.

The amount will be equally divided between four types of government aided schools — mission, religious, Chinese and Tamil.

Hishammuddin also said that the government had converted the status of three schools to fully aided schools.

They were SJKT Desa Cemerlang in Ulu Tiram, Johor, SMK Perempuan Methodist in Raub Pahang and SJKC Kuo Min in Kuala Muda, Kedah.

A special committee to address the problems faced by Tamil schools had also been formed to monitor the projects implemented in Tamil schools.

“I would also like to record my appreciation to the federal government for its commitment to develop the country’s human capital in the midst of the worldwide economic situation,” he said.
