Contributed by Wong Li Chin, Executive Officer  Bar Council, with the assistance of the Johore Bar Committee, successfully organised our very first outstation Getting Started! Workshop on 19 June 2009. Held at the Johore Bar Auditorium, senior lawyers and an accountant spoke to 16 participants on the business of legal practice, accounting, Bar Council rules, litigation and conveyancing.
Sessions were informal with lively discussions between speakers and participants. Focus was on the how-tos of starting a firm, accounting systems, taxation and the challenges faced in running your own firm. The Workshop was well received with a majority of participants finding the Workshop current and relevant to their work. Most would also recommend their peers to attend Getting Started! The next Getting Started! Workshop will be held in Kuala Lumpur at the end of 2009, where we will launch the Bar Council Starter Pack.
