Web Report: BC Secretariat Annual Futsal Tournament 2009

Last weekend saw more than 60 people gathering at the 2D Futsal Court, off Jalan Sungai Besi to cheer on (8) teams in their quest to attain the BC Futsal Challenge Trophy! Despite the almost impossible to locate Venue, men, women and children found their way to the futsal court as early as 9.00am on a Saturday (27 June 2009).

Others were less fortunate (including this contributor!), and managed to join the fanfare an hour (or so) later.

The 1 st futsal tournament in 2008 had (6) teams, with representation from the BC Secretariat and the Kuala Lumpur Legal Aid Centre staff (KLLAC). This year, the Selangor Bar Secretariat participated for the 1 st time! In addition, the KLLAC upped their ante and sent (2) teams for the 2009 challenge. To add to the merriment, the (8) participating teams came up with catchy names like “Crackhead” and “Blue OG”.

The Futsal Challenge's main objective was to build camaraderie between staff and also to meet their families. Hence, all teams comprised of staff, their husbands, siblings, cousins and even children!

As the games drew on, competition became more intense beneath the sweltering heat – as each team fought their way to the finals. Alas, only 1 could be the Champion! Team United FC (led by Zakhiri, BC Secretariat's phone service personnel) triumphed over Team Crackhead 1 led by Jeeva.

The victory means a great deal to BC Secretariat – for we've kept the challenge trophy safe for another year.

We hope this annual futsal tournament will set a firm tradition and become a permanent feature in the BC Secretariat's social calendar! On behalf of the BC Secretariat and all the participants (and supporters), we'd like to thank the Organising Committee (Darshan, Ezane, Gobi, and Nazihah) for a superbly organised day-out.
