PETALING JAYA:
The panel set up to verify the authenticity of an eight-minute-long video clip, purportedly of a lawyer and a senior judge discussing judicial appointments, has rescheduled its second meeting for Oct 29.

Panel chief and former Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Haidar Mohd Noor confirmed that the meeting, originally scheduled for yesterday (Wednesday), was put off by 12 days, to allow the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) to complete its report on its findings.

The panel, which also comprises former Court of Appeal judge Datuk Mahadev Shankar and National Service Council chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, held its first meeting at the Malaysian Human Rights Commission premises on Oct 3 during which it met Attorney General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan and ACA director-general Datuk Ahmad Said Hamdan and his deputy Datuk Abu Kassim Mohamed.

The panel has a 30-day deadline from Sept 27 to collate evidence and submit a report to the government on its finding.

The video clip – its original lasted 14 minutes -- showed the senior lawyer, believed to be Datuk V.K. Lingam in a conversation to lobby for the appointment of judges with a “Datuk”. The remaining footage was withheld to protect the identity of the person who recorded it.

On Sept 20, PKR vice-president Sivarasa Rasiah lodged a report with the ACA about the recording, said to have taken place in 2002.

The ACA later asked Sivarasa and PKR advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s political coordinator Sim Tze Tzin to reveal their source on Oct 4, or face a fine of RM10,000, a two-year jail term or both. They have refused.
