We trained at the Commonwealth Resort, Rawang. So, about nearly 30 of us, lawyer-wannabes “wannabes” and trainers alike woke up really, really early to gather at Wisma Kraftangan (the Legal Aid Centre) to leave for the Resort. Packing us off to the training-site, our sleepy selves were constantly interrupted by Sheena’s endless enthusiasm. Personally, seeing how Sheena and the Legal Aiders enthuse about the training increased my curiosity.
From the start of our training, we were impressed with the line-up of activities which included group discussions and dynamics. Training groups were formed and we learned quickly on how to work with each member within the group. For some of us, new bonds and friendships were developed here. However, never did I notice that our training facilitators left us wannabes out. Leena, Gayathiri, Juvita and company appeared constantly receptive to questions posed, issues raised and ailments that occurred. If anything, I felt that democracy was exemplified throughout the entire training.
Each group was also placed in charge of a particular session. For instance, my group, Lavie was placed to plan and co-ordinate a Cultural Night for the weekend. From there, each of us learned how to develop our responsibilities, which included the punctuality of the entire wannabes and so forth. However, during each training session, each of us sat as one whole unit learning about the respective issue(s).

I am grateful that I got my eye-opener from the training weekend. From globalisation to Malaysian politics to communicating effectively as a leader, I certainly learned much. In the end, we wannabes saw something interesting: we were regarded potential leaders of our country, and that the Legal Aid Centre and Bar Council are ever ready to prepare us for the future.
A day later, I received a call from Sheena who asked about my well-being.
So, if anyone asked, I would not think twice about recommending this event. After all, it only cost me one fulfilling experience.
it amazing to think that i had the same feeling about 2 years ago and another participant felt the same thing. it clearly shows that this training really WORKS.
i can't say much other than, "get others to join in as well".let ur chambies join legal aid and let your junior lawyers tk time off (one friday) to go for the training.
the experience is one that u finally realised that ure not the only one passionate bout helping others and there are revenues to do just that. and also the chance to meet some of the more progressive lawyers in legal aid.
glad the writer and others share the same experience and feeling i felt before.
just call legal aid and tell them you want a chance at it too. its priceless.
