After organising a Sijil Annual Workshop in Kuala Lumpur on 15 September, the staff of the Bar Council’s Membership Department, headed down to Johor for another session for the benefit of southern Members. This Workshop, held for the first time in Johor, took place at Johor Bar Auditorium on the afternoon of 2 October 2009.
At 2.30 pm, the Workshop commenced with a general overview of the Sijil Annual Form, Practising Certificate Form and other relevant documents and payments that are to be submitted to the Bar Council Secretariat to ensure the applications are processed expeditiously.
Following this was a detailed discussion on the content of Statutory
Declarations, which varies in accordance with the applicant’s position,
namely whether one is a sole proprietor, a partner, a consultant or a
legal assistant. This is often a problem area for many of the
applicants while filling in their forms.
In line with this, the team from the Membership Department highlighted other common mistakes and errors, which more often than not, cause delays in the issuance of the Sijil Annual. Participants were given opportunities to clarify any questions and uncertainties pertaining to their applications during the Question-and-Answer session before taking a short break.
The Workshop resumed with a group activity. The participants were divided into groups and asked to draft Statutory Declarations in the context of specific scenarios. All of the groups accomplished the task within the time given. The Workshop concluded at 5.30 pm.
The next Sijil Annual Workshop will be held on 9 October 2009 in Penang.
