PETALING JAYA: The PKR leadership is still waiting for Kulim-Bandar Baru MP Zulkifli Nordin to give an explanation on his provocative statements made during the protest against the Bar Council’s forum on Conversion to Islam.

Zulkifli could not be contacted after he made several provocative allegations during the demonstration against the forum on Saturday, said PKR information chief Tian Chua.

“We have no idea where he is but we have left messages for him and conveyed to him what we want from him. We want to know why he went against the party leadership’s advice to not associate himself with the demonstration,” he said.

Veteran lawyer Karpal Singh, meanwhile, said action should be taken against the demonstrators.

The DAP chairman and Bukit Gelugor MP said the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan should explain why the demonstrators were allowed to gather outside the Bar Council building without a permit.

“The police knew of the intended demonstration days before it occurred. However, no precautionary measures appear to have been taken to stop the demonstration,” he said in a statement yesterday.

In SEREMBAN, state DAP deputy chief and Senawang assemblyman P. Gunasekaren said he wants the police to charge the demonstrators.

He said the police should have arrested them rather than allow them to enter the Bar Council office, which was private property.

“It is sad that the police allowed them to dictate terms. The demonstrators should be arrested and detained under the Internal Security Act for stoking racial sentiments,” he said.
