KUALA KANGSAR: The senior judge, who was supposedly on the phone with a
prominent lawyer in a video clip purportedly brokering the appointment of
judges, has denied he was the person in question.
“I was contacted by the judge who denied he was the person on the other side,”
said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul
Aziz.
Mohamed Nazri said he agreed with the stand of Prime Minister Datuk Seri
Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak that
the authenticity of the video clip be investigated.
“Its authenticity must be investigated as we only see one person talking but the
person on the other side, we don’t know,” he added.
Those responsible for releasing the video clip should be mindful of their action
as it was unlawful to erode the people’s confidence in the judiciary, he said,
referring to Parti Keadil-an Rakyat’s move to release the video clip.
“It could just be a political stunt. If it was genuinely meant to rectify the
situation, give (the video clip) to the police to investigate,” he said.
Speaking to reporters after handing over RM100,000 worth of donations and
foodstuff donated by Amanah Raya Berhad during buka puasa to the needy here on
Saturday, Nazri said:
“This matter should not be blown out of proportion. An investigation can be
carried out by handing over the video clip, say, to the Anti-Corruption Agency
or the police.
“What is the use of highlighting the matter in the newspapers when its
authenticity has yet to be ascertained?” he asked.
