KEPALA BATAS: Going after the whistleblower did not mean that the Government had diverted from the issues raised in the video which purportedly showed a prominent lawyer trying to broker judicial appointments, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said.

“Maybe the three-man independent panel wants to know a little bit more from the person on how he got all the information concerned so that they can further investigate,” he said.

“The person who submitted the video clip might have more information that might be useful for the panel to make a decision.

“This should not be misinterpreted as a diversion from the main issues. It is not the Government’s intention to delay and to do something that is unfair. So, please co-operate with us,” he said after presenting Hari Raya aid to Muslims here yesterday.

On the plight of tsunami victims who have yet to relocate to their permanent houses in Tanjung Bungah, Penang, Abdullah said if they had fulfilled the necessary criteria, they should be allowed to move in.

Whatever you say...

I love how the PM has to reassure himself and everyone else by saying "the three-man INDEPENDENT panel"...

PM - no matter how many times you tell yourself that or say it out loud, it won't change the fact that the panel is FAR from independent.

Lee works for the government and Haidar hid the seal in 1988. Haidar ALSO decided a libel case in favour of VK Lingam in 2001.

Second, the whistleblowers have nothing to do with the authenticity of the tape which can be determined by simple, technical means.

Before the PM assures us that it is not the government's intention to delay and to do something that is unfair, he should perhaps check with the CJ's minister, Nazri, who appears to have a different agenda, and whose public statements on record show otherwise.
