KOTA BHARU, June 27 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan People's Action Council (MTRK) has
raised concerns about the effects of the 'Social Contract Forum' that will be held by the Bar Council in the federal capital tomorrow.
The council's president, Datuk Ibrahim Ali said the forum should not be held as
it could offend the sensitivities of some races in the country.
"The social contract issue is very dangerous to be debated as it is a sensitive
issue that will lead to racial discomfort," he told reporters after officiating
the council's general meeting here today.
The Bar Council is scheduled to hold the forum at its premises tomorrow at 9am
with panelists being Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia political science lecturer,
Dr. Mavis Puthucheary, Suara Rakyat Malaysia director Dr Kua Kia Soong and
lawyer Tommy Thomas.
Ibrahim said 60 people including those from Parti Keadilan Rakyat had registered
for the forum.
Besides Malay supremacy, issues related to Article 153 of the Federal
Constitution, the New Economic Policy and the New Economic Agenda will also be
discussed.
Article 153 is about the special rights of Malays.
Ibrahim, who is Pasir Mas member of parliament, said the forum could be a
platform for sedition, which the government could act on under the Sedition Act.

What's wrong with this guy? If I hear him right, an audience of 60 Malaysians for a Forum on "The Social Contract" cannot be held indoors? And it is hosted by the Malaysian Bar, with most of the speakers who are lawyers or academicians?
And he talks about "sedition" as is he is a lawyer. He is just a law-maker who came into Parliament because he is the Katak King.
I seem to recall that famous T.J.S. George quotation: "... And the caravan moved on."

Perhaps there will be more attendees now. he more the merrier. Rather than attempt to sweep things under the carpet, we should open the curtains and let the bright sunshine in onto areas of contention, so that we may learn the truth. And the truth shall set us free.
