AN EMERGENCY motion to debate Maybank's policy requiring law firms which want to be its legal partner to have a minimum 50% bumiputra equity in partnership was rejected by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib. He said although the motion was a specific issue and of public interest, it did not require urgency to be debated in the House as it was an internal matter of the banking institution. Chong Chieng Jen (DAP - Bandar Kuching), who tabled the motion, said the bank's move "will cause the professional service standard to drop and promote Ali-Baba in professional sectors".
