Everyone who attended the Malaysian Bar Annual Dinner and Dance 2010, which took place last Saturday (13 March 2010) at the Royale Chulan Hotel, agree that the event was an absolute blast.  Tickets were sold out even before the big day.  The theme “Tropical Night” was very well received and some of the guests went to great lengths to vie for the best dressed awards by turning up in their fanciest tropical outfit.

The dinner started at 8:00 pm with a speech from the President of the Malaysian Bar, Ragunath Kesavan.  He expressed his appreciation to the Organising Committee members - George Varughese, Rajen Devaraj, Lily Aw, Anne Andrew, Rachel Tan, Syamsuriatina Ishak and Rozian Idrus - for their hard work and contributions in organising the Annual Dinner and Dance.

Following thereafter, guests and VIPs, including, most notably, YAA Tan Sri Arifin bin Zakaria, Chief Judge of Malaya and his spouse, were entertained by dancers from Akademi Seni dan Warisan.

The entertainment highlight of the night was Irena Barr.  Dressed in a bright pink dress, she belted out song after song in her powerful voice and even though dinner was being served at the same time, many of the guests were seen to be singing along and waving their hands in the air.






After that, the President presented the sports personalities of the year awards, which went to Isa Aziz Ibrahim and Koh Yew Chong.  The guests were delighted when the 10 “best dressed” nominees were invited up on stage to show off their dance moves.  Everyone was equally good and the judges had a hard time deciding on the winners.  In the end, the awards went to Siti Zabedah Kasim and Bryan Fong.



The lucky draw segment was accompanied by squeals of delight interspersed with groans of disappointment as prizes such as mobile phones, microwave ovens, travel bags, a MP3 player and a RM1500 travel voucher were snapped up.  The night ended on a high note as Irena Barr came back on with another energetic performance.  

The programme ended at 10:30 pm.  Everyone went home with wonderful memories of the night.
