KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Lingam video clip has
applied for an extra two weeks to prepare its report.
This is the second extension the commission has asked for
since it was set up in December.
Sources informed the New Straits Times that the commission recently submitted a
request to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin to grant them a
postponement of its April 11 deadline.
"The commission requested for more time to prepare its report, but it hasn't
received confirmation on whether the extension has been granted," the source
said.
"The members feel that another two weeks should be sufficient for them to tie up
some loose ends."
According to a second sour-ce, a meeting would be held today
to discuss the matter.
"The commission will know by then whether it has been allowed more time.
"Otherwise, the members have to complete the report by Friday."
The commission, chaired by former chief judge of Malaya Tan Sri Haidar Mohamed
Noor, was set up to look into a video clip said to be recorded in 2002.
The clip allegedly features prominent lawyer Datuk V.K. Lingam brokering
judicial appointments on the telephone with a senior judge.
The panel's original deadline was March 11 and it was granted a four-week
extension.
