KUALA LUMPUR: Senior lawyer Datuk V.K. Lingam has pledged to cooperate with the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) in investigation into a controversial video clip purportedly showing a lawyer on the phone brokering the appointment of judges.

An ACA source said the agency finally succeeded in contacting Lingam who is on a business trip overseas.

“The response from the lawyer to help in the investigation is positive,” said the source yesterday.

On Thursday, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) handed over to the ACA a copy of the video with eight minutes of footage and not the original recording of 14 minutes and 16 seconds to protect the source.

Meanwhile, PKR president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the party would ask the person who recorded the video whether he would be willing to help the special panel tasked to verify the authenticity of the footage.

Former Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Haidar Mohd Noor – who heads the panel that also comprises National Service Council chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye and former Court of Appeal judge Datuk Mahadev Shankar – has urged the source to come forward.

Dr Wan Azizah said there had to be protection for the source.

She handed over a memorandum at Istana Negara seeking the goodwill of the King to look into issues concerning the judiciary following the disclosure of the video.
